Also, you can use examples like the shift from classical mechanics to quantum theory. Does that shift alter the scope? Maybe not completely—but it surely expands it.

History is another goldmine. Think about how methods have evolved—oral histories, written chronicles, digital archives, or even AI tools used for analysis. At the same time, has the scope of history shifted from just kings and wars to now include the voices of marginalized groups? That could suggest the scope does, in fact, change.

As for Ways of Knowing, you’re going to want to bring in reason and language for the sciences, as well as emotion and language for history. The way we understand the past is heavily colored by how we interpret language and how we feel about what we find. Science, meanwhile, leans heavily on rational frameworks—even as those frameworks evolve.
